We will be demo'ing both cAos Linux and the Warewulf Cluster toolkit. I am looking for help with 2 things: 1. Volunteers to help with booth duty. The responsibility is to be present during the show, and talk with attendees of the show about Warewulf and answer questions. Being a guru is not a requirement, but being friendly is. 2. Some hardware from a vendor (that will be at the show) for us to use in our booth to demo both Warewulf and cAos Linux (thus free booth publicity). Please email me off list if you can help! -- Greg M. (dating from Nov. 2004). "yum update yum" worked and then "yum update" seemed to work... Until I tried to use rpm moments later (after yum had installed a bunch of things for the update). Here's the error message I get from "rpm -qa" (or pretty much any other rpm command. rpmdb: unable to initialize mutex: Function not implemented rpmdb: /var/lib/rpm/__db.001: unable to initialize environment lock: Function not implemented error: db4 error(38) from dbenv->open: Function not implemented error: cannot open Packages index using db3 - Function not implemented (38) error: cannot open Packages database in /var/lib/rpm The machine seems functional in all other respects, but not being able to use rpm for anything but "rpm --version" is um, rather pointless ;-). Oh, and RPM is now at version 4.4.1 on the machine it tells me. The yum.log file (trimmed a bit more) is attached. It is weird that the install works, but not the system. If it is trying to use "3w-xxxx" do the following: During the install, right at the main menu, please try the following: [alt]-[f2] (brings you to a shell) # rmmod 3w-xxxx # modprobe 3w-9xxx (if that works) # vi /cinch/etc/modprobe.conf (change the 3w-xxxx to 3w-9xxxx) # exit now continue with the install... After the install, if you go into sidekick and do anohter hardware probe it will overwrite the modprobe.conf. You will need to edit it again so that it points to 3w-9xxx and/or edit /etc/detect/updates and add an entry for the 3w-9xxx. I can change the source so that it does this by default. Good luck! If i boot with cinch, mount the system root partition, chroot into it and then modify the modprobe.conf and run the mkinitrd to recreate the initrd img is the same or not? The init script into the initrd that load the modules does the job to much quickly :-) I have put into it some "sleep 5" to see all the output and all works fine :-) Btw "the necessary" is only a sleep just after the 3ware's insmod. Ok, this is only a workaroud but for now it solve mi contingent problem: i don't see a "right way" solution...
